In 2003 Nick Hanks started the working with local volunteers at Slaughterbridge, in North Cornwall, to excavate a deserted medieval village site and a mid 18th century garden with a 6th century inscribed stone at its centre.
The project expanded with the involvement of Bristol University students and a party of Bedouin from the United Arab Emirates (yes, really!). Gradually the project was handed over to Dr Niall Finneran, of Winchester University.
Now the project is back with Nick Hanks and local volunteers once again. Currently, these webpages (link) date from the time before Winchester Universities involvement. They will be updated at the end of the 2026 season of excavations.
